Ida B. Wells Towel
Ida Bell Wells-Barnett (1862-1931) was born into slavery in Mississippi and gained her freedom following the Emancipation Proclamation during the Civil War. At 16, after the death of her parents from yellow fever, she took on the responsibility of supporting her family. She later relocated to Memphis, where she worked as a teacher and journalist, focusing on racial segregation. Her investigations into lynchings led to the destruction of her newspaper offices, forcing her to move to Chicago due to ongoing threats. In addition to her anti-lynching work, she was a dedicated advocate for women's suffrage. In recognition of her impact, she was posthumously awarded a special citation from the Pulitzer Prize committee.
Half Panama unbleached cotton (heavy weight, textured finish). Stitched on all four sides. Includes hanging loop. Measures approximately 48cm x 70cm.
Machine wash at 40 degrees max. We recommend that before you use your tea towel for the first time you wash it at least once to soften up the material and make it more absorbent for drying dishes. Please note size can vary slightly.
