Remember Tulsa Tea Towel
In the early 20th century, Tulsa, Oklahoma's Greenwood district emerged as a thriving center of Black entrepreneurship, earning the moniker "Black Wall Street." This community prospered with successful businesses and a flourishing economy, exemplifying the resilience, creativity, and determination of its Black residents. However, this story of progress was tragically disrupted by an explosion of racism and violence in 1921.
In a horrific act of racial hatred, long-standing tensions among Tulsa's white residents erupted into a brutal assault on the Black community. Although the exact toll is uncertain, it's estimated that up to 300 Black individuals were killed, and around 35 blocks of the Greenwood neighborhood were destroyed. This tragedy remains a stark reminder of the deep-seated systemic racism that afflicted American society.
By reflecting on this history, we honor the memory of the resilient Black community that once thrived in Greenwood. We recognize the enduring legacy of Black Wall Street, celebrating the entrepreneurship and economic vitality it represented. As we engage with this story, let us commit to the ongoing struggle for equality and justice, ensuring that such acts of violence and oppression never darken our collective future again.

Machine wash at 40 degrees max. We recommend that before you use your tea towel for the first time you wash it at least once to soften up the material and make it more absorbent for drying dishes. Please note size can vary slightly.
