In the summer of 2020, Cole Arthur Riley longed for a spirituality she could trust.
Amidst national racial violence, pandemic isolation, and anti-Black rhetoric in Christian spaces, she envisioned a safe haven for a more freeing expression of faith. Thus, Black Liturgies was born, a digital project that links spiritual practice with Black emotion, memory, and the Black body.

With a poet's touch and a sensitive approach, Riley invites readers to contemplate their experiences of wonder, rest, frustration, and healing, while also providing liturgies for occasions like Lent, Advent, and Mother's Day.
